How difficult is the hike?

This is a demanding full-day mountain hike with steep sections and 1,150–1,200 metres of elevation gain. You must be in good physical condition and comfortable hiking for 8–9 hours.

Do I need previous hiking experience?

Yes. You should have experience with long hikes on uneven terrain. The route is not suitable for beginners.

Why is the trail only accessible by boat?

Accepted Answer

The hike begins in Botnen, a roadless hamlet deep inside the narrow Fyksesund fjord. The historic mountain route starts here and can only be reached by boat—the same way locals travelled for generations.

What is included in the tour?

Accepted Answer

A local, experienced guide, RIB fjord transport to Botnen, minibus return to Øystese, snacks from local producers, and coffee or hot chocolate.

What should I bring?

Sturdy hiking boots, layered hiking clothing, waterproof outerwear, hat or headband, sunglasses, sunscreen, lunch and snacks, water, and a 15–30 L daypack.

Is there an age limit?

Yes. Participants must be 15 years or older and able to complete a demanding full-day mountain hike.

What happens if the weather is bad?

Accepted Answer

Safety comes first. We may adjust the route, delay departure, or reschedule the tour if conditions in Fyksesund or the mountains are unsafe. If rescheduled or cancelled you will get a full refund.

How do I get to the meeting point from Bergen?

Accepted Answer

You can travel by Bus 925 from Bergen to Øystese (approx. 90 min). The starting time corresponds with the bus departing from Bergen at 07:25 AM. If you drive, free parking is available outside the Hardangerfjord Hotel, our meeting point.
